Hugo the Happy Starfish: The Secret to Happiness Review

by Wren on April 14, 2013

We are big on reading in my home. Every night before tucking my daughter into bed we read a book or a chapter, depending on the book. I prefer to read her things that will help her learn new things. She is a pretty bright kid and she picks up on things pretty easily.

The other night we read Hugo the Happy Starfish: The Secret to Happiness, and she seemed to really be drawn to it. It is a story about Hugo where he is sad and needs to learn how to be happy. It shows his journey on trying to find out how to not only become happy, but stay happy. It is something that many people struggle with and it can be found in the simplest ways.

After reading it she told me examples of what she would do to be happy and stay that way. They were really sweet and gave us a few moments to reflect on the book. We have read it several evenings now and she still surprises me with the many ways she would stay happy, and they are the sweetest things and things we striving to bring into our everyday lives.

I feel this book is something worth reading to your children and discuss afterwards. It is never to early to teach your children character values!
