Watching movies with my daughter is something we both enjoy doing. Love a good story, snuggles, and popcorn. We especially love stories with strong female leads and lots of action. So when we put in Brave to watch we were really excited. We love Princess movies, and I had a feeling Merida was a strong lead.
While watching Brave we quickly realized it was not a typical love story. No I mean seriously, no love story at all. I was in shock, but super excited by this. So many Princess movies are all about love, and this was an impressive change. It is about the relationship between mother and daughter. It showed the struggles Merida had with her mother Elinor.
Elinor just wanted Merida to be a proper Princess, but Merida wanted to be free to do as she chose. In the struggle between mother and daughter Merida asks a witch to change her fate, but what happens was not at all what she had wanted. So she must be Brave and sacrifice what she wants to put things right.
The graphics in this movie are phenomenal! The hair alone was unlike anything I had seen before and the textures and everything seemed so real. At times I felt as if I were even there. The realistic feel with the computer animation has always been something I loved, and Pixar has truly nailed it with their first full scale Princess movie.
The music was very touching and fit in with the movie perfectly. I can never stress enough how music plays a vital role in any movie, but I was not disappointed. I found myself wanting to hear the music again and again.
With the Ultimate Collector’s Edition you receive 5 Discs: Blu-Ray Feature film plus Bonus, Blu-Ray Bonus, DvD of Film and Bonus, Digital Copy of Film, and a Blue-Ray 3D copy. So much at one minimul cost. I loved the shorts & extras. Showing how they came up with the story, did the animations, and everything. I find that I love watching Bonus material, and that it adds to the movie seeing how much people have put into it.
Brave is a movie that I think any mother and daughter pair would love to watch over and over. It truly shows the struggles mother and daughter can face in their lives. I believe fathers and sons would enjoy it as well, because almost every male characters in the film were a source of comic relief. I found myself near tears in laughter.
I say get Brave to have in your home, I know you will not regret it!
