Baby Signing Time Review

by Wren on October 24, 2013

I truly believe that babies are able communicate from a very early age, they just are unable to speak. There are even studies that prove it and as I have a baby I would like her to be able to communicate the things she needs to me if I am unable to just “know” what it is she needs. It also helps her to show her independance without me hovering over her all the time.

So I was excited to watch Baby Signing Time! It’s Baby Signing Time from two little hands. It is a 2 disc set DVD + CD for you to watch with your baby. It is great for babies from 3 months to 36 month, but it is a great DVD to continue even after that point! I have read countless testimonials on children learning to sign before they are even 9 months old! It is something they adapt to quickly. My daughter is only 4 months old, but she seems to really like to watch it and I show her the signs whenever possible. She may be unable to do the signs herself, but I think she is beginning to learn what they mean. It is not just a great tool for her, but an amazing one for me and my older daughter. She is not even in the age group and seems to like the idea of learning another language without speech.

A lot of the troubles during the terrible twos is that they are unable to communicate, and with this it gives them a way to until they figure out the correct words to use. I am not saying it will cut the terrible twos out of the picture entirely, but it will certainly help. With learning sign language it will also help them be one step ahead in literacy when they are older! Such a great perk.

There are loads of signs you will learn:

  • Eat
  • Drink
  • Cracker
  • Water
  • Cereal
  • Milk
  • Banana
  • Juice
  • Finished
  • Mom
  • Grandma
  • Dad
  • Grandpa
  • Diaper
  • Potty
  • More
  • Bird
  • Fish
  • Cat
  • Dog
  • Horse
  • Frog
  • Hurt
  • Where
  • Baby

As a child my Dad tried to get me to learn sign language. I always knew “I Love You” and I have shown my kids that from as far back as I can remember so they always know. This was a great tool for not just my children, but helps me to learn something I wish I had a long time ago. Though this is fun and upbeat with cute animation and you can even sign along with babies and toddlers. You will even get to sign with Emmy Nominated host, Rachel Coleman!

This is an excellent gift to give to babies and young ones. I doubt they will even notice it is educational!
